About Denver Colorado
Mile High City
Denver, CO is highly associated with the many sports teams including Denver Broncos of NFL, Colorado Avalanche of National Hockey League and Denver Nuggets of National Basketball Association-all considered the best teams in their leagues. But Denver is not all about sports teams. Although it represents the city, there are other attractions that more than meet the eye.
Denver, the capital of the state of Colorado, is located in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains and east of the Front Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains. It is also known as Mile-high city due to its remarkable elevation that is exactly one mile above sea level. The city is connected to some of the major transportation systems in the country; thus, its economy is partially dependent on it. Since the geographical position of the city is fitting for trade, it has become a trade point which resulted to the entry of large corporations that wanted to take advantage of its efficient distribution channels.
The economy of Denver is likewise based on mining and energy companies that have settled near the mineral rich Rocky Mountains. Although this industry has suffered losses in the past years, a number of companies are still operating such as the Rio Tinto Group, Noble Energy, and Halliburton. Another source of revenue for the city is the telecommunications industry where the location of the city allows the North American coasts, Europe, South America and Asia to operate on the same business day. Its status as a mile-high city is an advantage, being the largest United States city that is able to offer a one-bounce real-time satellite that links six continents on the same business day.
As of today, the population of Denver has reached nearly 600,000; a mix of Hispanic, African-American, Asian and Native American. Most of its residents are between the ages of 35 and 54, thus named as the Baby Boomer capital of the United States. In addition, the city of Denver has the highest number of graduates both in high school and college.
There are so many attractions in the city starting off with the 200 parks and dozens of boulevards lined in trees. Then there’s the low downtown area that is filled with Victorian buildings and warehouses that have now been turned into restaurants and shops; and of course the presence of several huge stadiums.
